Upon waking, let’s reflect on the twenty-four hours ahead of us. Let’s examine our daily plans. Before we start, let’s ask God to guide our thoughts! Specifically, let’s ask Him to keep self-pity, dishonest, and selfish motives away from us!
Under these conditions, we can boldly use our spiritual abilities, as we have received them from God. Our thought processes rise to a much higher level when we free our thinking from improper motives.
[Alcoholics Anonymous, pp. 80-81]
During the day, when something stirs us up or doubt overwhelms us, let’s take a moment to pray for the right thought or action. We constantly remind ourselves that we are no longer in charge of the show. Let’s humbly tell ourselves several times each day: “Thy will be done.”
This way, we will be much less exposed to the dangers of anxiety, fear, anger, worry, self-pity, or foolish decisions. We become much more useful. We do not tire as easily, as we are no longer wasting our energy thoughtlessly, as we did when we tried to shape our lives according to our own desires. It will work out—truly, it will.
[Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 82]
